BUCHAREST (Reuters) – On Friday, Tom Odell performed his song “Another Love,” which has become a social media emblem of Ukraine’s fortitude, to migrants travelling through Bucharest’s main railway station.

The British singer-songwriter sang the piano ballad about battling for someone you love, which has been featured in TikTok videos, including one showing a defiant Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, beneath the arrivals and departures boards.

Since Russia started its invasion of Ukraine, more than 2.5 million Ukrainians have fled to neighbouring countries, in what the UN has described as Europe’s worst refugee crisis this century. more info.

Approximately 381,000 people have landed in Romania, which shares a 650-kilometer border with Ukraine. Every day, thousands of people travel through Bucharest’s train station as volunteers and municipal government provide food, hot drinks, transportation, and housing.


Odell is set to play at a performance in the Romanian capital on Saturday to collect cash for the Red Cross to aid Ukrainians, with Romanian musicians, DJ Armin van Buuren, and Ukrainian singer Jamala, who won the 2016 Eurovision song contest.
