QEUTTA – Following the kidnapping of Jaffar Express passengers, security forces conducted a clearance operation in Balochistan’s Bolan area.

According to security authorities, at least 16 assailants have been neutralised, and 104 civilians have been safely evacuated.

The Jaffar Express, which carried almost 400 passengers in nine coaches, was attacked while heading from Quetta to Peshawar. According to security authorities, the rescued passengers include 58 men, 31 women, and 15 children.

Efforts to liberate the remaining captives continue, with troops strengthening the perimeter around the insurgents.

Following the security forces’ action, the assailants dispersed into smaller groups. Injured passengers were quickly transferred to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

As the incident began, security forces rapidly encircled the train, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to sources, the terrorists are in communication with their handler in Afghanistan and are using women and children as human shields, which complicates the operation.

Because of the presence of people, security officers are exercising utmost care. The rocky topography of the area has further hampered the task.

According to security sources, the gunmen blasted the railway track before boarding the train and fired on the locomotive, wounding the train driver.

According to reports, the train left Quetta at 9:30 a.m. and was attacked as it passed through the Pehro Kunri district in the Bolan province.

Security officers sealed off the region, which is located in the rugged hills near Machh. Mobile services in the region are unavailable.

The Balochistan government spokeswoman stated that the nature of the attack was being investigated, with the potential of a terrorist act not being ruled out.
