ISLAMABAD (The Post) – The Parliamentary Committee on National Security, led by the National Assembly speaker, released an official statement following its meeting.
The prime minister, committee members, political leaders, the army head, major government and defence officials, and top security officers all attended the meeting.
According to the statement, the committee strongly condemns the recent terrorist atrocities. The country’s political and military authorities have agreed to take decisive action against terrorists and extremist groups.
The leadership decided to use all available resources to utterly destroy terrorism.
A thorough examination of the existing security situation and the latest wave of terrorism was carried out.
The committee denounced any indication of sympathy for radical terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
The emphasis was on enforcing relevant national security legislation and properly supporting security institutions.
The statement emphasized the importance of implementing a well-coordinated and organized plan to eliminate terrorist facilitators. Any group that supports terrorism will meet severe consequences.
Furthermore, the committee recommended tough penalties against individuals who spread extremist narratives on social media.
The group said that Pakistan’s institutions must have complete flexibility to enforce laws and handle national security issues. It highlighted taking all essential actions to prevent terrorism and requesting increased resources to boost law enforcement agencies’ effectiveness.
The committee also expressed sadness for the absence of several opposition members while confirming that talks will continue.
The declaration further stated that no institution, individual, or organization should demonstrate weakness in the battle against terrorism. A robust and coordinated approach is required to ensure national security.
At the end of the meeting, the National Assembly speaker asked for a prayer from Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, who led prayers for victory in the war against terrorism.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged on Tuesday to eradicate terrorism in Pakistan, stating “peace, order, and security will be ensured in the country.”
The premier was speaking to the participants in an in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security here at Parliament House.
Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir and Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Asim Malik also attended the meeting.
The prime minister said there’s no room for terrorism on the soil of Pakistan. “We cannot forget the sacrifices of our martyrs. We are determined to cleanse the country of terrorism. We will ensure peace, order and security in the country.”
