LAHORE: Javed Miandad, a former Pakistan cricketer and batting icon, was formally admitted into the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Hall of Fame on Saturday, the PCB said.
PCB Chief Executive Faisal Hasnain presented Miandad with a commemorative hat and plaque.
“I am humbled and honoured to have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame,” the former cricketer said upon accepting the honour, according to PCB.
He called his admission into the PCB Hall of Fame “fitting” at a time when an international cricketer, PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja, is in charge of Pakistan’s cricket affairs.
“He [Ramiz] knows the hard effort and sacrifices a cricketer takes to reach the top pedestal more than anybody else,” Miandad added.
He went on to claim that every time he stepped onto the field to play, he wanted to serve his team and nation via his performance, thus he devised his “own training and preparation plans” by visualising the opponents and situations he would encounter.
“I am delighted that my efforts yielded positive results and that I was able to serve my team and country with performances that made us a proud cricketing nation,” Miandad said.
“Throughout my career, one thing I accomplished with great success was rapidly forget my prior performance and shift emphasis to the next task.” Of course, I used what I had learned from the previous game in the following match and tried to improve, but I didn’t concentrate on what I had accomplished in prior matches,” he said.
Wasim Akram, the most recent Pakistani cricketer admitted into the PCB Hall of Fame, was presented with a commemorative cap and plaque by Sir Vivian Richards, one of cricket’s all-time greats and an ICC Cricket Hall of Famer.
