According to CIA Director John Ratcliffe, the United States has suspended intelligence assistance and arms transfers to Ukraine in the wake of President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump’s meeting in the Oval Office last week.
Ratcliffe claimed in an interview with Fox Business on Wednesday that Trump’s doubts about Zelensky’s dedication to the peace process prompted the stop.
Ratcliffe told Maria Bartiromo, “President Zelensky said let’s pause because he had a real question about whether he was committed to the peace process.”
After Zelensky wrote a letter to Trump, the CIA director hinted that the suspension would soon be lifted.
“I believe the pause that made that possible will end on the military and intelligence fronts,” he stated.
Ratcliffe emphasized that the United States is still dedicated to assisting Ukraine in thwarting aggression and promoting peace initiatives.
influence on military actions in Ukraine
There has already been a reduction in intelligence cooperation, including fewer aircraft for observation and reconnaissance, according to a senior US military official. Ukraine’s offensive and defensive activities, especially air defense, may be impacted by this cut.
Officials from both nations are currently evaluating the possible repercussions of the delay, as Ukraine depends significantly on US information for tactical awareness.
According to a person familiar with the talks, US officials had briefed Trump’s transition team on the value of intelligence collaboration with Ukraine prior to his inauguration, emphasizing its contribution to battlefield victories.
US and Ukrainian military officials were assessing the effects of the short-term suspension of military assistance, CNN reported on Tuesday.
