KYIV (Reuters) – Russian missile and drone assaults on Ukraine’s eastern city of Dobropillia overnight killed at least 14 people and injured 37 others, including five children, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on Saturday.
The government also said that three more people were killed in a drone assault on the Kharkiv area in the northeast.
According to the ministry, Russian soldiers targeted Dobropillia with ballistic missiles, rockets, and drones, causing damage to eight multi-story buildings and 30 automobiles.
“While extinguishing the fire, the occupiers struck again, damaging the fire truck,” the ministry stated via Telegram message.
The ministry released photographs of partially demolished buildings caught in flames and rescuers clearing rubble from the structures.
Dobropillia, which was home to around 28,000 people before to the war, is located in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, 22 kilometers (13.67 miles) from the front line north of the important center of Pokrovsk, which Russian soldiers have been attacking for weeks.
The ministry also said that at least three people were killed and seven injured in a second drone strike on the Kharkiv area overnight.
The Ukrainian military said that Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, one Iskander-K cruise missile, and 145 drones.
They said that air forces shot down one cruise missile and 79 drones. According to the military, another 54 drones failed to reach their objectives, most likely owing to electronic countermeasures.
