CM Sarfaraz Bugti stresses government’s commitment to ensuring security for demonstrators.
On Saturday, an alleged suicide attack occurred near a BNP-M sit-in in the Lak Pass region of Mastung district.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the chief of the BNP-M, and several top party leaders were at the demonstration location when the alleged assailant detonated his suicide vest. However, all persons were uninjured.
Mengal’s party has organized a lengthy march from Wadh to Quetta to protest the arrest of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders Dr Mahrang Baloch and Sami Deen Muhammad.
According to reports, the Balochistan government had been in communication with the BNP-M leadership since the night before, and a BNP-M team had already visited with local officials.
A government team was also supposed to see Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Saturday, when the tragedy occurred. They claimed the administration had informed the demonstrators that a comprehensive inquiry had been initiated and that the findings would be made public soon.
Following the event, security measures were greatly tightened in and around the BNP-M long march. Authorities have put in place tight procedures to protect the area’s safety, with the goal of preventing any more threats, according to officials.
Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti fiercely denounced what he called a “alleged suicide bombing.”
In a post on the social networking site X, he stated that the government will properly examine the situation. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to provide security for BNP-M leaders and attendees.
The JUI-F also denounced the suicide assault, stating that it is the government’s obligation to secure the safety of peaceful protesters.
Aslam Ghauri, JUI-F spokesperson, released a statement on Saturday night expressing his heartfelt remorse for the suicide assault on Mengal and his crew.
“The Pakistani Constitution allows for peaceful protests. He stated that it is the government’s obligation to ensure security for peaceful protests.
He stated that individuals who advocate for their rights by constitutional means should be completely protected.
“Democrats shouldn’t be pushed against the wall. “When voices are ignored in Parliament, people are forced to take to the streets,” he said.
