ISLAMABAD – Sugar prices have reached new highs in numerous major cities, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), with substantial regional differences.

According to the most recent PBS statistics, the maximum price of sugar in Quetta has risen to Rs229 per kg, an increase of Rs19 per kg over the previous week. Prices rose from Rs210 to Rs229, placing households under further financial burden.

Quetta is presently the most costly city for sugar purchasers in Pakistan. The highest price in Peshawar is Rs200 per kilogram, whereas the highest rates in Karachi and Islamabad are Rs195 per kg. Rawalpindi’s highest reported price is Rs190 per kilogram.

Despite rising rates in various markets, the national average price of sugar fell by Rs2.01, ending at Rs185.47 per kg during the last week. A week ago, the average was Rs187.48 per kilogram.

When comparing year-on-year numbers, PBS noticed that sugar prices were significantly lower last year, with the average standing at Rs132.24 per kg, illustrating how quickly expenses had risen over the previous year.
