BULAWAYO (Today News) Prior to their Under-19 World Cup Group A encounter, tensions between India and Bangladesh were apparent when both teams’ captains skipped the traditional pre-match handshake at the toss.
Ayush Mhatre, the captain of India, and Zawad Abrar, the vice-captain of Bangladesh, did not exchange greetings during the toss in the seventh game of the tournament, which took place in Bulawayo.
Md. Azizul Hakim Tamim, the captain of Bangladesh, was absent due to sickness, and Abrar was filling in.
The incident occurred in the midst of tense relations between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as a result of recent events related to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and worries about hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
India defeated Bangladesh by 18 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) technique, despite the tension off the field.
India was bowled out for 238 runs in 49 overs while batting first at Bangladesh’s request.
Rain later intervened, and under the DLS method, Bangladesh’s revised target was set at 165 runs in 29 overs.
However, the team was bowled out for 146 runs in the 29th over.
