On Sunday, former England soccer captain David Beckham gave his Instagram account to a doctor who assists ladies giving delivery in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Beckham, a 46-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder and current co-owner of Inter Miami of the American Major League Soccer, told his 71.6 million Instagram followers to check out his profile to see Irina, a child anaesthesiologist, and her team’s work in the midst of the conflict.

Beckham, a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, released a video message on his Instagram account, urging his followers to support the organization’s work in Ukraine.

Since Moscow initiated what it terms a “special operation” in Ukraine last month, Kharkiv has been pummelling by a torrent of Russian strikes that have destroyed many structures.

The operation, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, is aimed at disarming Ukraine and rooting out dangerous nationalists. Western countries have labelled it a “aggressive war of choice” and put severe sanctions on Russia’s economy. On the first day of Russia’s invasion, Irina, the head of the Regional Perinatal Centre, shared videos of a basement where she said pregnant women and mothers were evacuated. She also shared photos of newborn babies who were reliant on UNICEF-donated oxygen generators.
