CHRISTCHURCH: England’s Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone each claimed three wickets before Danni Wyatt starred with an unbeaten 76 to beat Pakistan by nine wickets in the 24th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, which began on Thursday.
After sending Pakistan in to bat first, England’s bowlers shone, dismissing the green shirts for 105 runs in the 42nd over.
Right-handed pacer for England Brunt and the slow left-arm orthodox got three wickets apiece, while Heather Knight and Kate Cross each took one to reduce the opposition to a pitiful score.
Sidra Ameen fought hard for Pakistan, scoring 32 off 77 balls with four boundaries, while Sidra Nawaz showed resiliency by scoring 23 before Kross castled her in the 39th over.
The rest of Pakistan’s hitters were unable to contribute considerably, and the team was bowled out for a poor total.
With a target of 106 to pursue, England cruised to victory in the 20th over, losing only one wicket. Danni, the right-handed hitter, starred with an undefeated 76 off 68 balls, which included 11 boundaries. On the other side, Knight stayed unbeaten on 24 from 36 balls.
Only Diana Baig was able to score a goal for Pakistan.
The 23rd match of the current Women’s World Cup between South Africa and the West Indies, on the other hand, was rained off due to heavy rain.
