The Queen paid a surprise visit to a train station in central London on Tuesday to observe a freshly built subway line named after her.

The 96-year-old monarch, who has cut back on her public appearances, visited Paddington Station on Tuesday to witness the Elizabeth Line, which will open to the public on May 24.

“The organisers were advised of the possibility she may attend,” Buckingham Palace stated, calling the event “a pleasant development.”

The queen was accompanied by her youngest son Prince Edward for the ceremonial visit, who was dressed in a sunny yellow attire with a matching hat. She was observed smiling as she walked through the station with her cane.
