KARACHI: Pakistan’s 18-member squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup departs for New Zealand tonight.
Pakistan’s World Cup squad will depart for New Zealand in the early hours of tonight; all squad members and officials have tested negative for COVID-19.
The team will arrive in Auckland first, then fly to Christchurch on a chartered airline, where they will be subjected to a mandated 10-day isolation period.
Following the departure, the captain of the Pakistan Women’s cricket team, Bismah Maroof, spoke to the press and expressed hope of reaching the big event’s semi-finals.
“We put in a lot of effort throughout training camp.” “The goal is to make it to the event’s semi-finals,” she explained.
Bismah also revealed her thoughts on the green shirts’ first encounter against arch-rival India, stating that the squad will approach the game with a fresh perspective.
“In this sort of event, we have to perform well from the start.” “Our first match is against India, and we will approach it differently,” she remarked.
Bismah also stated that the team is currently in good shape, although admitting that the circumstances in New Zealand are different.
“Our crew is now in great shape and performing admirably. “The team has grown significantly in my absence,” she remarked.
“Conditions in New Zealand are different,” she noted, “but we will attempt to react properly.”
Bismah also referred to bowling as the team’s strength and expressed confidence that the bowlers will do well in the world tournament. She also stated that the team’s wicket-keeper choices are limited and recommended the development of additional wicket-keepers in the future.
The returning captain went on to say that all of the players have been aware of their duties, which should help the squad perform well in the forthcoming World Cup.
It is worth noting that the forthcoming Women’s World Cup 2022 will begin on March 4 with the hosts New Zealand taking on the West Indies in the curtain-raiser, with the final taking place on April 3 at Hagley Oval.
