Nida Dar of Pakistan grabbed four wickets before left-handed opener Muneeba Ali produced a critical 37 runs in the run chase to push the green shirts to their first victory in the current ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, here on Monday.

In a rain-affected encounter, Pakistan’s captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and sent the West Indies in to bat.

Her bowlers did not disappoint, limiting the West Indies to 89/7 in the allowed 20 overs. Nida excelled with the ball, taking four wickets for 10 runs in her outstanding performance.

Fatima Sana, Nashra Sandhu, and Omaima Sohail, on the other hand, each struck out a batter to put the opposition on the defensive.

The first hitter for West Indies, Deandra Dottin, battled hard with her 27 off 35 balls, but the rest of the batters were unable to contribute considerably.

Pakistan stumbled a bit in the run chase, losing their opener, Sidra Ameen, for a combined score of 22 as they were set to chase a measly 90 in 20 overs. Sidra faced 15 deliveries and scored eight.

Following her removal, Bismah and Muneeba, the youthful opener, put on a crucial 35-run partnership for the second wicket before the latter returned in the 13th over. Muneeba faced 43 balls and hit five boundaries to score 37 runs.

In the 19th over, the all-rounder Omaima joined her skipper in the middle and put up a match-winning 33-run partnership to propel the team to victory. Bismah stayed undefeated on 20 off 27 balls, while Omaima remained unbeaten on 22 off 27 balls.

Afy Fletcher and Shakera Salman both took one scalp for the West Indies.
