DUBAI: Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam has won his career-high ranking in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test batting rankings following the end of the historic Test series against England.

Babar, who had a spectacular series with the bat against England, has reaped the benefits of his dominant year with the bat in red-ball cricket, as the skipper has risen to a career-high second position in Tests.

The right-handed batsman replaced Australia’s experienced Steve Smith, but the latter’s countrymate Marnus Labuschagne maintained his batting lead with a successful home series against the West Indies.

Babar, on the other hand, drew closer to Labuschagne in the current standings, with 875 rating points, 61 fewer than Labuschagne.

Meanwhile, the English batsmen were rewarded for their outstanding performance in the just finished three-match Test series against hosts Pakistan.

Player of the Series Harry Brook advanced 11 places to 44th, joining West Indies’ Jermaine Blackwood.

Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes advanced two places to 23rd, while Ollie Pope finished 28th.

It is worth noting that Ben Stokes’ England completed their first-ever clean sweep of Pakistan at home, winning by an eight-wicket margin early on Day 4 of the fourth Test.
