Australian Usman Khawaja marked an exciting century in the country where he was born on the first day of the second Test against Pakistan in Karachi.

Home fans chanted Khawaja’s name in his 127 draws as Australia dominated, reaching 2,513 by the end.

Khawaja was born in Islamabad before emigrating to Australia as a child and had relatives in the Karachi crowd to witness his first Pakistan trial.

“My family is actually from Karachi,” the 35-year-old said.

“This is where the Khawajas are from. All my family members were born in Karachi except me.

” This is my home. I have been here a lot. It’s good to have a hundred. “

Khawaja scored 97 in the first Test drawn last week in Rawalpindi, with this last century a further continuation of her breathtaking form from her lure during the Ashes when she scored two centuries against the England in the fourth Test in Sydney

Steve Smith shared a 159 with Khawaja before being caught by Hassan Ali in the penultimate round of the day for 72.

David Warner made 36 in an opening stand of 82 with Khawaja, while Marnus Labuschagne stayed out for a duck.
