Opener Travis Head scored a furious century to lead Australia to a 313-7 victory against Pakistan in the first day-night international in Lahore on Tuesday.

After Pakistan sent Australia in to bat at Gaddafi Stadium, Head hit a 72-ball 101, his second one-day international century, while Ben McDermott hit a career-best 55 from 70 balls.

Head, who was playing in his first ODI since November 2018, hit 12 boundaries and three sixes and put on 110 for the first wicket with skipper Aaron Finch, who made 23.

Head needed only one ball from spinner Iftikhar Ahmed to reach three figures in 70 deliveries, the fastest ODI century by an Australian against Pakistan.

In 2017, he broke David Warner’s record of 78 balls set in Adelaide.

With the score at 209-2 in the 33rd over, Pakistan responded with three wickets for 21 runs in 39 balls, eliminating McDermott, Marnus Labuschagne (25) and Alex Carey (four).

Cameron Green (40 not out), Marcus Stoinis (26) and Sean Abbott (14) all contributed to Australia scoring 50 runs in the final five overs to surpass 300.
