WELLINGTON: Due to a back ailment, all-rounder Ellyse Perry has been ruled out of the first semi-final of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 between Australia and the West Indies.
Perry has been knocked out of the semi-finals after suffering a back injury in her team’s match against South Africa. Perry’s absence from the knockout game has been confirmed by Australia’s captain, Meg Lanning.
“We’ll go in without her tomorrow and keep evaluating her if we want to advance in the tournament,” Lanning added.
“It’s awful for her and the squad, obviously a significant hit, but we feel like we’ve got some decent depth to cover it and we’ll have to do that tomorrow,” she continued.
Lanning also stated that the Australian management was confident about Perry’s comeback but “simply ran out of time to show her fitness.”
Furthermore, it is the second time in the 31-year-career old’s that he will miss a world cup semi-final, following the 2020 T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa.
