Reuters reports that The one-day international series between South Africa and the Netherlands has been postponed due to the detection of a new COVID-19 type in South Africa, which resulted in travel restrictions, the two cricket boards said on Saturday.
The first ODI in Centurion on Friday was called off due to rain. The boards had stated that the visiting team would be “very unlikely” to be allowed to travel out of the country over the weekend.
The decision was made in response to the Dutch government’s “growing alarm and concern” over travel bans and limitations on flights from South Africa imposed by the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
“It must be made clear that the worries are only about travel and how quickly the crew can return home, and have nothing to do with the integrity of the Bio-Secure Environment that CSA has successfully hosted,” KNCB chairman Jurgen Delfos said.
